Louis Edward Lipscomb, 87, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Beaufort Co. Hospital. He was born in Salem, VA, the son of the late Nevel Vaughn Lipscomb and the late Frances Lipscomb. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aylor Lee Barbour Lipscomb. Mr. Lipscomb was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Lipscomb is survived by his daughters, Peggy L. Thompson and husband Jimmy of Harrells, Nancy L. Rhew and husband Kenny of Hillsborough; grandchildren, Lisa Moore and husband Michael of Washington, Jamie Thompson and wife Betsy of Plymouth, Kevin Rhew and wife Britton of Stephenson, VA, Kim Averitt and husband Doug of Durham; brothers, Clyde Lipscomb, Allen Lipscomb; sisters, Ruby Shook, Annie Price, and Helen Edwards; 10 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and his four-legged side-kick, Gracie.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in Durham with Dr. Robert Phillips and Dr. Al Sholar officiating. Burial will follow in Lowes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
