Mr. Alton Paul Stocks Sr., 85, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, officiated by his pastor, Dr. Keith Gardner. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from Noon to 1:15 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Stocks, son of the late Herman and Cornelia Mayo Stocks, was a native of Pitt County and a graduate of Chicod High School. He made his home in Greenville in 1955, where he worked at Quality Oil Company for a number of years. He later worked as a LP Gas Inspector for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, covering Eastern North Carolina, until his retirement. After his retirement he was employed by East Carolina Vocational Center as a job coach for persons with disabilities. He also worked with his brother, J.B., as a courier for medical supplies for a number of years.

Mr. Stocks had been a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Greenville since 1955, where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He enjoyed singing in quartets for many years, singing with the Reel’s Family Quartet from Black Jack Free Will Baptist Church, the Belfrey Quartet and the Kings Road Crusaders Quartet, both from First Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed being an amateur artist, painting both water colors and oil paintings.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stocks was also preceded in death by a sister, Maggie Stokes and a brother, J.B. Stocks.

He is survived by: his wife of 60 years, Glorious Hodges Stocks; sons, Alton Paul Stocks Jr. of Greenville and Philip Anthony Stocks and wife, Crystal of Zebulon; granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Stocks of Zebulon, who was his pride and joy; and a brother, Joe Rogers of Ayden.
