Mr. Cecil Singleton, age 73, a resident of Clarks Neck Road, Washington, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. He was born in Beaufort County on August 31, 1942 to the late Ruth Gaynelle Barrett Singleton and William Ivey Singleton. He attended Grimesland High School and on February 14, 1965 he married the former Daphine Warren whom survives. Cecil was a life-long farmer and member of Riverview Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Clarks Neck Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one brother, James “Jimmy” W. Singleton and one sister, Cora Singleton Lane. Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter, Rhonda Singleton and fiancée Cullen Lane and former husband Buddy Beddard all of Washington, NC, one son, Eric C. Singleton and wife Wendy Ipock Singleton of Washington, NC, and four grandchildren, Blake Beddard, Ashleigh Singleton, Tyler Singleton, and Madison Singleton all of Washington, NC. Cecil is also survived by one sister, Shirley Godfrey also of Washington.
A celebration of his life will be held today at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Reverend Eddie Coltrain and Dr. James Hagwood officiating. Music will be provided by Tim Etheridge and Cullen Lane. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers include, Donald Hardee, Mark Singleton, Jr., Albert Campbell, Keith Dixon, Woody Clark, and Anthony Bailey. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Clarks Neck Volunteer Fire Department, Crowell Pope, Jr., Leopoldo “Polo” Lopez, Phillip Matkins, William Earl Woolard, Steve Carrow, and Donnie Woolard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hillside Funeral Service and other times at the home. The family request that memorial donations be made to Riverview Baptist Church, 6228 Clarks Neck Road, Washington, NC 27889.
