From North Carolina State Grange
Landon Woolard, of Washington, is one of nine students in the state to be awarded the 2016 Grange Scholarship. Presented annually by the North Carolina State Grange organization, Woolard was selected to receive the $1,000 college scholarship based on his academic achievement, community service and Grange involvement.
A member of Beaufort County Grange, Woolard has been very active in the Grange’s State Youth Program the past four years, participating in a variety of events and leadership roles. He has served as a State Youth Officer through his four years of high school, and is currently one of six students in the state serving on the Grange’s State Youth Leadership Team, the top leadership role in the program. Through the Grange, Woolard has been able to serve as a National Youth Officer, and participated in 2015 on the state Parliamentary Procedure Team, helping his team win first place at the national competition.
Woolard has volunteered in many service projects, such as writing letters for troops, visiting nursing home residents and assisting with canned food drives. Woolard has also received several awards for his Grange involvement including the National Grange Leadership Award and the 2015 President’s Award, North Carolina Grange’s most prestigious award presented annually to an outstanding student.
Woolard will be graduating in June from Pungo Christian Academy where he excels as an athlete on the school’s basketball, soccer and baseball teams, and was named 2014 Male Scholastic Athlete of the Year. He is also involved in Student Council and his local community theater.
Woolard, the son of Timothy and Melissa Woolard, plans to attend East Carolina University this fall to pursue a degree in engineering.
