BARCO — Washington had a firm grip through most of Thursday’s second-round playoffs game at Currituck County. The Lady Pack only trailed once en route to a 5-3 win that punched its ticket for the third round.
Hailey Harris scattered three hits and fanned a dozen Lady Knights, but also walked six batters. She struggled a bit with her control after allowing no walks in the first-round blowout of First Flight.
Washington struck first in the top of the first, but the home side bounced right back with a run of its own. The Lady Pack scored again in the top of the second. The girls hung on to the one-run lead until the Lady Knights scored twice in the fourth.
They quickly answered with two of their own runs in the top of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth.
Seven Lady Pack batters had hits in the game. Chrissy McKissick scored two of the team’s runs. Jordan Pierce, Hailey Harris, Style McKissick and Meghan Horton each had an RBI, too.
Washington, the No. 12 seed and 10th-ranked 2-A team in the state, now travels to No. 4 East Duplin on Tuesday. Like Currituck County, the Lady Panthers finished the season a perfect 10-0 in their conference. They’ve won 12 in a row heading into the third-round showdown.
