From the Pamlico Writers Group
Come out and join the Pamlico Writers Group on May 17 for our May Speakers Luncheon, with writer Deborah Doolittle. We meet at the China Bay Buffet, 2871 U.S. Highway 17 South, Chocowinity, and begin at 11:45 a.m. Attendees are asked to arrive by 11:30 a.m. so they have time to go through the buffet line and assemble in the private meeting room before the presentation starts. Please remember to tip your server so we may reduce our facility costs.
Deborah comes to us from Jacksonville. Her luncheon topic includes the writing process and the importance of developing routines for writing, revising and submitting to journals. She is an English instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, and has been for the past 16-plus years. Her various courses of instruction include college composition, developmental English and reading, college success, creative writing and literature surveys.
She has lived in a lot of different places but now calls North Carolina home. She has a BA from the University of Colorado, an MA from George Washington University and an MFA from San Diego State University. She’s written two chapbooks: “No Crazy Notions” and “That Echo” that have won the Mary Belle Campbell and Long Leaf Press Award, respectively. She has had more than 350 poems published in literary magazines, with some most recently having appeared or will soon appear in Atlanta Review, Bear Creek Haiku, Edge, Oberon, Pinyon, Seems and TAB: The Journal of Poetry and Poetics.
She is also an avid printmaker and has put together a small collection of handmade, limited edition book art. Deborah is married to a retired U.S. Marine, has a son, a daughter and three grandchildren. When not teaching or writing, she volunteers as a wildlife rehabilitator. They currently share their home with four cats and a backyard full of birds.
Our free luncheon meetings are open to the public. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month except the following months: January, March, July, November and December.
Pamlico Writers Group is affiliated with Arts of the Pamlico and meets as small critique groups on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. at Arts of the Pamlico’s Turnage Theatre. Novice and published authors are encouraged and invited to join our groups.
Pamlico Writers Group and Arts of the Pamlico co-sponsor the annual Pamlico Writers Conference and Competition. Conference information for 2017 is not available at this time. Look for this and other events on our web site at www.pamlicowritersgroup.org, where you may also join our group.
