Published 6:55 pm Friday, May 20, 2016
Those interested in adopting a pet should inquire at the Betsy Bailey Nelson Animal Control Facility, 3931 U.S. Highway 264 East, from 1 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturdays. Because of overcrowded conditions, the animals listed are only available as indicated.
All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To see more animals available for adoption, visit www.petango.com/beaufortcountyNC, visit ENC Shelter Dogs, ENC Shelter Cats and Washington Cat Rescue on Facebook or call 252-946-4517 for more information. The Humane Society of Beaufort County can also be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/BeaufortCountyNCHumaneSociety.
Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the shelter will be closed May 28-30, and will open with regular hours on May 31.
Nelly
A 100-percent bloodhound, Nelly has the American Kennel Club paperwork with her stating that fact.
Approximately 6 years old, she is very sweet, friendly, active and people loving. Nelly is beautiful with a brown-and-black coat, and she loves attention, being petted and treats. Too slim for her medium size, Nelly is in need of tender loving care. She has had puppies at some time, and unfortunately, she has several large masses that need evaluation and treatment by a veterinarian. But Nelly has an upbeat and outgoing personality, and she demonstrates what a truly a fine dog she is.
Please note: Nelly will not be available for adoption until Monday. Interested parties may fill out a form on Saturday stating desire to adopt Nelly on the following Monday. Multiple parties may do the same, and all adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Bright Eyes
Gorgeous and sleek in her silky, jet-black coat and huge, mesmerizing — Bright Eyes!
Not just a pretty face, though, she’s fun loving, affectionate and friendly. This 2-year-old is very sweet, loves attention and rubs against you for more. She appears to be friendly with other kittens when given a chance. She was a good mom to her two kittens, but now they’re both adopted, and it’s Bright Eyes’ time to shine.
