Mrs. Vonnie Smith Tinker, age 85, a resident of 2612 Hwy. 99 South, Belhaven, died Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Vidant Beaufort in Washington.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Mrs. Tinker’s home. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at Smithton Cemetery, conducted by Scott Askew and Rev. Jimmy Gray.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Todd Tinker, Brad Tinker, Scott Askew, Eric Askew, Chester Smith and Blake Tinker.
Mrs. Tinker was born in Belhaven on August 6, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Clemon Warren Smith Sr. and Marjorie Marslender Smith. Mrs. Tinker was a hairdresser and retired owner of the Adora Beauty Salon in Belhaven. She was a Past President of the National Hairdressers Association. Mrs. Tinker was a member of the Hancock Primitive Baptist Church in Ayden. In her spare time, Mrs. Tinker loved to cook for her family and her neighbors and play golf.
On June 8, 1947, she married Elwood Samuel Tinker, who preceded her in death, May 10, 2016. Mr. and Mrs. Tinker would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year.
Mrs. Tinker is survived by her children, Sammy Tinker and his wife, Sue A. Tinker of Pantego, daughters, Donna Askew of Plymouth, Margie Tucker and her husband, Virgil Tucker of Belhaven; her four grandsons, Todd Tinker and wife, Darlene, Brad Tinker, Scott Askew and wife, Stephanie, Eric Askew and wife, Erica; two step-grandchildren, Mickey and Chad Tucker; sister, Sallie Winstead and husband, Kenneth of Kennewick, WA; sister-in-law, Janie Smith of Belhaven; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Tinker was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Tinker; brothers, C.W. Smith Jr. and Jimmy Smith; son-in-law, Hassell Askew and grandson, Terry Tinker.
