Murry Victor Witzel

M. Victor “Vic” Witzel, age 90, a resident of Goose Creek Drive, Washington, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Witzel was born in Natchez, Mississippi on September 21, 1925 to the late Josephine Tarver Durham and Murry Victor Witzel.
Vic was very optimistic about everything in life. He loved to travel and loved his family dearly. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus while his health permitted. He served his country in the US Navy, and was a proud veteran of WWII. Vic obtained a bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Texas. After completion of his studies he worked for a large oil firm in Tyler, TX. A number of years later he became an educator with the state of Texas and retired in 1985. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Covey Witzel, one son, David Witzel, and his grandson, Eli Sirratt. Survivors include one son, Murry Victor Witzel Jr. of Cedar Park, TX; three daughters, Jann Syer of Baytown, TX, Carolyn Williams and Jennifer Witzel, both of Washington; one daughter-in-law, Diana Witzel of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be set at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, 112 West 9th Street, Washington, NC. The family will receive friends at their perspective homes.
