Floyd William “Bill” McCants, age 76, a resident of New Bern, NC, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Two Rivers Church in New Bern, and will be officiated by the lead minister of Two Rivers Church, David McCants. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers include Jordan Borgaila, William Borgaila, Charles Rose, Allen Phelps, Bobby Steward and Jarod McBride.
Mr. McCants was born in Baton Rouge, LA, to the late Floyd Newton and Sybil Aliese Dykes McCants on January 16, 1940. He was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Caesar Rodney High School of Camden, Delaware. Mr. McCants received his Associate of Arts degree from Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC, a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC, finally receiving a Master’s Degree from the University of Delaware. He worked as teacher and coach in the Delaware public school system.
He served as an Elder in the Christian Church of Seaford, DE, for many years, was a member of Elizabeth City Church of Christ in North Carolina, Son Rise Christian Church of Kitty Hawk, NC, and Two Rivers Church.
On March 20, 1963 he married Wanda Elaine Rose, who preceded him in death on April 25, 2016.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dave and Jennifer Carol McCants Borgaila of Honey Creek, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, David Floyd and Bonnie Watson McCants of New Bern; seven grandchildren: Jordan Daniel, Sara Jo, Carol Rose (Rosie), Grace Elayne, William Norman Borgaila, Ella Hope and Jane Aliese McCants; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Charlie McCants; three sisters, Joan Stephenson, Jeanette McBride and Emily Stewart, all of Denham Springs, LA.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Two Rivers Church, New Bern, NC.
