Mr. Jesse Taylor Jones, age 86, a resident of the Cowan Street in the Rosedale Community of Washington, died Monday, June 20, 2016 at River Trace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Washington. Jesse was born December 29, 1929 in Beaufort County to the late Eddie L. and Bertha Cayton Jones. He attended Beaufort County Schools and later served his country in the US Army. Jesse was the owner of Jones Brothers Floor Fashion, along with his brother Eddie (Lukie), which was established in 1954. The business operated under that partnership until 1986, then Jesse ran the business until his retirement in May 1995. Jesse loved working, he was a hard worker, and he loved making beautiful bathrooms. Jesse married the love of his life, the former Shirley Haddock, on November 1, 1948 and they were married for 67 years. His children and grandchildren along with his great-grands were his pride and joy. He loved to sing and enjoyed all types of music, but his love was Gospel. No one could sing the love of God like he could! Jesse enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending family weekends at Pamlico Beach where many wonderful family memories were made! In addition to his parents he was predeceased by four brothers, Bernice M. Jones, Johnny Warner, Eddie L. Jones and James E. Jones; two sisters, Gertrude Mish and Katie J. Liverman. Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Loretta Jones Oliver; one son, Jesse “Jay” Jones, both of Washington; three granddaughters, Krystal T. Jones, Rebekah Jones and Jessica Jones, all of Washington; two grandsons, Jason T. Wells and wife Tonja of Washington and Jeremy M. Wells and wife Danielle of Bath. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Taylor Wells, Olivia Wells and Ross Jones, all of Washington, and Ella Wells of Bath. A celebration of Jesse’s life will be held today at 7:00 pm at Washington Assembly of God, 2029 W. Fifth Street, Washington, officiated by Reverend Stephen Evans, Reverend James Gurganus and Reverend Elmer Bauman. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Jones family plot in Oakdale Cemetery. Ray Lilley, Russ Lilley, Charles Boyd, Devon Mish, John Warner, Brett Campbell, Tommy Lilley, James Jones Jr. and Phillip Leggett will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorial contributions in Jesse’s name may be directed to Washington Assembly of God “FineArts,” 2029 W. Fifth Street, Washington. Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Jones family.
