Horace “Red” W. Dixon

Horace “Red” W. Dixon, 82, of Cambridge Village in Apex, formerly of Clayton and Raleigh, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh. 

Red was born February 26, 1934 in Washington, to the late Barrow and Daisy Dixon. He graduated from Washington High School and attended Wake Forest University on a football scholarship. Red began a career with Continental Baking Company (Wonder Bread) where he worked in Williamston, NC, and then relocated to Raleigh as a Supervisor and later Manager until retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou McGahey Dixon, sons, Gary W. Dixon (Carol) and Dale W. Dixon (Angela) and brothers Donald, Rudolph and Ben. Red is survived by his daughter, Sue Dixon Kasopsky (Mike), five grandchildren, Erin Holliday (Josh), Marc Dixon (Amber), Brooks Kasopsky (Jaimie), Andrew Dixon (Elizabeth), David Dixon and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother Larry Dixon of Roxboro, sister Zee Dixon Schoeller of Springfield, MS, and brother-in-law Morris McGahey (Sally) of Washington, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 10:30am-12pm Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex, NC 27502. A funeral service will follow at 12pm in the funeral home chapel.
