Participants in the Tyrrell County Senior Nutrition Program were recently honored with cake and ice cream for being the first of the 10 counties in Region R to meet a yearlong contribution goal of $2,500. Not only did they meet this goal, but surpassed it by more than $433. And this was done in April. Participants of the home-delivered meals program were also included in the celebration by getting a bit of cake and ice cream as well.
The Senior Nutrition Program is one of the many programs offered through the Albemarle Commission, Tyrrell County’s local Area Agency on Aging, and it is located in the Tyrrell County Senior Adult Activity Center. It promotes, maintains and improves the health and well-being of older adults through the provision of a nutritionally balanced meal five days per week served in a congregate setting or delivered to the home. Services are available to persons 60 years of age and older and their spouses regardless of age.
This program is supported state and local monies as well as the donations made by the participants. If you would like to participate in the program or would like to volunteer, please call 252-796-0365 for more information.
