After less than two years, Misty Walker, principal of Washington High School, has resigned from the position.
Walker came on board as principal on July 22, 2014, and her resignation was official as of Tuesday, according to Sarah Hodges Stalls, public information officer at Beaufort County Schools.
Walker is a Beaufort County native and 1990 Washington High School graduate, who taught math at Northside High School early in her career.
After pursuing a master’s degree in administration, Walker worked as a principal in Guilford and Elkin county schools. Her most recent position before being hired by Beaufort County was as the secondary education director at Roanoke Rapids Graded School District.
Stalls declined to comment as to the reason for Walker’s resignation.
Other schools in the district are also seeing shifts in leadership.
Betty Jane Green, principal of John Small Elementary School, is moving to a new position within the school system, although the details have yet to be determined.
“I cannot confirm what or where her assignment (is) since it has not been made,” Stalls stated in an email.
Kelly Makepeace, formerly an assistant principal at P.S. Jones Middle School, will fill the principal’s role at John Small Elementary. Stalls said more information about the transition will likely be released next week.
Attempts to contact Walker about her future plans were unsuccessful.
