Washington woman dies in motorcycle crash

A Washington woman died Tuesday after being involved in a motorcycle accident in Durham on July 15.
According to law enforcement, Sherry Blackburn, 47, was riding a motorcycle with her husband, Ricky, on Interstate 40 when the vehicle in front stopped quickly and both were thrown off the motorcycle.
Ricky Blackburn had serious injuries, but has been released from the hospital. Sherry Blackburn was being treated at Duke University Hospital before her death.
She was most recently employed at the East Carolina Heart Institute in Greenville, earning a nursing degree from Beaufort County Community College, according to her obituary. Previously, Blackburn graduated from John A. Wilkinson High School in 1987 and also earned an associate degree in business from Campbell University, the obituary states.
Blackburn leaves behind: her husband Ricky; parents Charles and Peggy; son Issaiah and his wife Chelsea; daughter Rebecca and her husband David; brother Kevin and his wife Sarah; sister Karen and her husband Chris; father-in-law Harlen; and two grandchildren, among others.
A memorial service will be held Friday afternoon at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
