Theodore Alligood

Mr. Theodore Alligood, age 94, a resident of Slatestone Road, Washington, died Monday, August 1, 2016 at Greendale Forest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Snow Hill.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington, conducted by Marty Alligood. John R. Peele, Greg Peele, Tony Alligood, Britt Alligood, Brad Alligood and Eugene Elks will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Alligood was born on May 19, 1922, son of the late Hardy D. and Alice W. Alligood. Other than his time in the military, he spent his life on the family farm on Slatestone Road near Washington. He loved the land and was an active farmer until the age of 88.

He served in the US Army during WWII and was stationed at Schofield Barracks at the time Pearl Harbor was bombed. He felt great pride in his service to his country. In his last years he enjoyed sharing his military stories with anyone who would listen. He was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ.

On August 10, 1945, he married the former Mildred Warren who preceded him in death in 2015. Mr. Alligood is survived by one daughter: Alice A. Wingate & husband Leon; one granddaughter: Lynn Wingate and one great-grandson: Gray Wingate Lewis. He also leaves behind many loving nephews, nieces and sisters-in-law who have been very supportive during the past few years.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers: Delmar B. Alligood, Felton Alligood, Ervin Alligood, Etheridge Alligood and Archie Alligood.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Greendale Forest Nursing Home in Snow Hill, NC, and to Community Hospice of Kinston, NC.

The family received friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at the home of his daughter, Alice A. Wingate, 11 Wyanoke Avenue, Bath, NC 27808.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Boy Scout Troop 258, c/o Bill Fath, 144 Kirby Grange Ave., Bath, NC 27808 or to Pinetown Rescue & EMS, P.O. Box 69, Pinetown, NC 27865.
