Rachel Edmonson Manning, 89, died Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Golden Living in Greenville NC. She was born on February 14, 1927 to the late Zeno and Girlene Taylor Edmondson. She was married to Mack Gilbert Wynne until his death in 1978. She later married Wheeler Martin Manning who passed away in 2002.
Mrs. Manning was a native of Martin County. She was a graduate of Robersonville High School and attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson. She worked with Harrison Crawford Insurance Agency for over twenty five years until her retirement in 1984.
Mrs. Manning was a former member of Cedar Grove Free Will Baptist where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and church clerk. After remarrying she joined Wheeler in membership at First United Methodist Church in Williamston. A woman of strong Christian faith she loved her church and was very active serving on several committees until her confinement due to failing health.
She was also a member of various civic organizations in Martin County.
Mrs. Manning is survived by daughters Beverly W Harrington and husband Pike of Ahoskie, and Joan W James and husband Ronnie of Robersonville, four grandchildren Picott Harrington and wife Lynn of Washington, Wynne Harrington of Wrightsville Beach, Stephanie J Butler and husband Bill of Clayton, and Allison J. Zeise of Greenville. Also surviving are great grandchildren Graceanne Edmondson, Clay Edmondson, Suzie Harrington and Claire Harrington.
In addition, she is survived by stepdaughters Mary Evelyn Sparrow of Columbia SC and Jane Martin Manning of Portland Oregon, 2 step grandchildren Mary S Robles of Shelby and John Sparrow of Columbia SC and five step great grandchildren.
Surviving her also is a brother Bill Edmondson and wife Carol of Rocky Mount and a sister Carrie Evans of Newport News VA.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Spring Arbor of Greenville especially Amanda Biggs and the dedicated staff in the cottages for the excellent care she received while a resident there. In addition AseraCare Hospice and Golden Living staff for their compassionate care in her final days.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 21, 2016 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Williamston. Family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at her home.
