Elections director Swain reports voter demographics

There were 2,442 registered voters in Tyrrell County on June 27, elections director Debbie Swain reported recently.
That is two voters more than she reported in February.
Of the 2,442 registered, 418 are classified as “inactive”; that is, they have not voted in recent elections.
Two years ago, the total registration was 2,489, Swain reported.
The latest party affiliation figures show 1,483 Democrats, 330 Republicans, four Libertarians and 625 Unaffiliated.
Last February’s report showed 1,515 Democrats, 318 Republicans, 5 Libertarians and 602 Unaffiliated.
There were 1,531 Democrats, 309 Republicans, 2 Libertarians and 555 Unaffiliated in November 2015.
Party affiliations in June 2014 were: Democrat 1,613; Republican 324; Libertarian 2; Unaffiliated 550.
Swain’s report for June 2016 showed voter racial composition as American Indian 7, Asian 19, Black 798, Multi-racial 2, White 1,555, Other 37, Undesignated 24.
Voters’ racial reporting in February was: American Indian 6, Asian 20, Black 808, Multi-racial 2, White 1,544, Other 36, Undesignated 24.
Racial reporting in November 2015 was: American Indian 6, Asian 18, black 794, multi-racial 4, white 1,525, other 32, undesignated 20.
Racial composition of the electorate in June 2014 was: American Indian 7; Asian 15; Black 826; multi-racial 4; White 1,588; other 32; undesignated 17.
Ethnicity of voters in June was 28 Hispanic, 1,814 not Hispanic, and 600 undesignated.
Ethnicity reported in February was 27 Hispanic, 1,823 not Hispanic, and 590 undesignated.
As to ethnicity in November 2015, 23 indicated Hispanic, 1,797 not Hispanic, and 579 undesignated.
In June 2014 the ethnicity reported was 20 Hispanic, 1,869 non-Hispanic, and 600 undesignated.
In June 2016 there were 1,302 females, 1,121 males, and 19 undesignated.
In February there were 1,301 females, 1,120 males, and 19 undesignated.
Last November there were 1,279 females, 1,102 males, and 18 undesignated.
Gender was recorded in June 2014 as: Female 1,333; Male 1,138; undesignated 18.
Tyrrell’s official 2010 population was 4,407. The state demographer’s certified estimate was 4,143 in 2014, the latest year available.
The federal census counts since Tyrrell’s boundaries last changed in 1890 have ranged from 5,556 in 1940 to 3,806 in 1970.
