From the Literacy Volunteers of Beaufort County

Literacy Volunteers of Beaufort County announces that Sept. 29 will be the date of the fall 2016 fundraiser for the organization. The event, in its ninth year, is coordinated by Dee Beckman for the group and features lunch, door prizes from our generous local merchants, a 50/50 drawing and games of the participants’ choice.

The fundraiser begins at 11 a.m. at Washington Yacht & Country Club, with luncheon served at noon and play until 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 per player, and reservations can be made by calling the office of Literacy Volunteers at 252-974-1812.

In past years, guests have enjoyed Scrabble, Hand and Foot, Mexican Train, Bridge, Mahjong, Canasta, Sequence and other games brought by players. The funds raised support the work of Literacy Volunteers in providing free, confidential tutoring to legal adults in Beaufort County. Reservations should be made by Sept. 22.
