Grace Sutton Eddings

Mrs. Grace Sutton Eddings, 90, died Friday at Ridgewood Manor in Washington.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Greenville. Entombment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Eddings, daughter of the late Robert and Emily Sutton, was born on April 9, 1926, in Beaufort County. After graduating from Chocowinity High School in 1944 she moved to Washington where she was employed with Carolina Telephone until October of 1945. On Oct. 11, 1945, she married Francis M. Eddings of Detroit, MI. They resided in Washington until Oct. 23, 1950, when her husband was recalled to active duty with the Marine Corps. During their married life they also lived in Morehead City, Barstow, Calif., Beaufort, S.C., and Camp Lejeune. Upon her husband’s retirement from the Marine Corps they were both employed with Campbell College in Buies Creek. After seven years, they moved to Greenville where her husband was employed at ECU as Chief of Police. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and being with their many friends.
In Greenville, Mrs. Eddings was a member of the First Christian Church where she had served as an Elder and was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of the Inglis Fletcher Book Club, the Salvation Army Auxiliary and the Benevolent Circle of Kings Daughters.
A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed by the many who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years. Francis M. Eddings.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Dana W. Eddings and wife, Bonnie, of Washington, Francis M. Eddings III and wife, Lisa, of East Northport, NY and Steven F. Eddings and wife, Eileen, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kevin Rawls and wife, Jenny, Emily Woolard and husband, Bryan, Josh Eddings and wife, Stuart, Justin Eddings and wife, Lauren, Brian Eddings, Elizabeth Eddings and Charlie Eddings; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Morgan Rawls, Avery Grace and Bentley Woolard and Ruby and Wade Eddings; brothers Robert Sutton of Dade City, Fla., and Seth Sutton and wife, Peggy, of New Bern; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
