Show up and show support

The cycle of sports is never ending. It always seems to work out that just as one season ends, another begins. Such was the case in Cleveland on Tuesday evening. After decades of dread for fans in the area, there was a special parallel with the Indians opening the World Series as the Cavaliers raised their NBA Championship banner next door.
Both Cleveland teams got off to a thunderous start. The Indians thumped the Chicago Cubs, 6-0, in Game 1 of the World Series, and the Cavaliers dismantled the New York Knicks, 117-88.
There’s a cyclical nature to Beaufort County athletics, too. Fall sports began playoffs yesterday. Washington tennis and Northside volleyball hosted first-round games, while Washington and Southside’s volleyball teams hit the road for their opening matchups.
Soccer playoffs are approaching quickly. The Pam Pack has its eyes dead set on a return trip to the state championship. Soon after will be the football postseason. Southside looks to follow up last year’s success, while Northside and Washington both look to build on shortcomings from a year ago.
As if all that isn’t enough, the winter sports season is now less than three weeks away. Basketball, wrestling and swimming are all right around the corner. It may seem like a lot as the end of one season overlaps with the beginning of another, but it also provides a myriad of opportunities to get out and support local athletes.
From the youth recreational level all the way up to the high school varsity ranks, Beaufort County’s athletes put in an incredible amount of work. A lot of it goes unseen until the start of a game.
That said, there’s never a better time than right now to get out and cheer area athletes. Whether they’re beginning a postseason push, or starting the season of their championship chase, all Panther, Seahawk and Pam Pack competitors would love to see packed stands in the coming weeks.
