Anne King Davis

Mrs. Anne King Davis, age 85, of Washington, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at Abbotswood at Stonehenge in Raleigh. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at the family plot in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.

Mrs. Davis was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on March 29, 1931, the daughter of the late Eve S. and Raymond L. King. She was a 1949 graduate of Nottingham High School in Syracuse, New York, and a 1953 graduate of Syracuse University, where she received a B.S. in Social Welfare. She was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. On Sept. 15, 1956, she married Edward W. Davis.

In 1960, Mrs. Davis moved with her husband and daughter to Ridgewood, and then Ramsey New Jersey, where she resided for 29 years. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey as a Sunday School teacher and was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for several years in the 1960s. She worked for the Ramsey Library as a Library Assistant in the 1970s and ’80s.

After her husband’s retirement, the Davises moved to Washington in 1989. Mrs. Davis was a 22-year volunteer at Vidant Beaufort Hospital, where she served as president for one year and was awarded the North Carolina Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from Governor Hunt. Mrs. Davis also received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1996 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and past member of the Washington Yacht & Country Club. As a homemaker, primarily, Mrs. Davis loved her family, reading and gardening. She was also an avid walker for most of her life.

In addition to her loving husband of 60 years, Edward, she is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Christine Davis and Paul Spencer Tew of Zebulon, and her beloved granddaughters, Julia Anne Tew and Alexandra Davis Tew, both of Charlotte. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth S. Davis, of Akron, Ohio; nieces Elizabeth D. and husband Timothy Meyer and great-nephew Andrew Meyer. of Akron, and Dr. Carolyn F. Davis and husband Kevin Ohlson and great-nephew Mathew Ohlson and great-niece Katherine Ohlson of Vienna, Virginia; and nephew Stephen E. Davis of California. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra K. and William Graham, of Palm Harbor, Florida, and nieces Deborah G. Jaso and husband Richard Jaso, of New Fairfield, Connecticut, Terri G. Vicari and husband David, of Belle Mead, NJ and Stacy G. Boyd and husband Chris, of Somonauck, Illinois, as well as several great-nieces and -nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, David King, of Florida.
