Evelyn Spencer Carawan, 99, of 4850 Loop Road, Scranton, died, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Evelyn was born in Hyde County, September 3, 1917. She was the daughter of the late George and Blanche Carawan Spencer. She was married to Charlie A. Carawan who preceded her in death.
She was a member of Eunice Chapel Church of Christ, where she held various church positions including working with the church youth and the Ladies Friendship Circle. She was known for her hand crafts, her passion for cooking, her willingness to open her home to people in need, fishing and the joy of taking care of her family and being a home maker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Eunice Chapel Church of Christ. Jason Adams and Linwood Adams will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Beulah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Scranton.
Surviving is a daughter in-law, Cindy Boyd Carawan of Scranton; four grandchildren, Vickie C. Williams, Lisa D. Carawan, both of Washington, Jeffrey Warren Carawan of Mulberry, TN and Justin Lee Carawan of Scranton; a great-granddaughter who was reared by Mr. and Mrs. Carawan, Jessica Leigh Hall of Washington; 12 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dexter Warren Carawan; a brother, Harold Spencer and a sister, Myrtle Sawyer.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, and other times at the home place.
