Verna Lee “Honey” Brotchie, age 91, a former resident of Washington, NC, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be officiated by Reverend Jim Pegan.
Mrs. Brotchie was born in Beaufort County on July 4, 1925, to the late Samuel Maxwell and Lillie Jones Lee. She was a Washington High School graduated Class 1944 and she attended Women’s College in Greensboro. On July 25, 1954, she married Douglas William Brotchie who preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 1994. She worked as a secretary for the North Carolina Highway Patrol until she retired in 1989. Mrs. Brotchie was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Washington.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her two brothers, Sam Newman Lee, Ralph Arnett Lee, and four sisters, Elizabeth Lee Watson, Olivia Lee Handy, Iris Lee Cox, and Margaret Lee Nenstiel.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home of her niece Anna and Granville Lilley, 214 Whispering Pine Road, Washington.
