Mr. Jessie Ray Boyd, 78, of Chocowinity, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at his home after a long period of declining health.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in Pinewood Memorial Park with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating.

A native of Pitt County, Jessie was one of the four children of Jesse and Mary Lewis Boyd. He attended the Pitt County Schools and began farming in his early years. Following farming, he became engaged in automotive body repair. He worked as the Body Shop Manager for Moore Motor Company in Washington for more than 35 years, retiring in 2004 due to his health. A favorite destination was visiting the mountains in Maggie Valley where he and his wife planned to retire to prior to declining health. Many happy times were spent there. In his free time, he usually had a car to repair as he greatly enjoyed his work. He attended Gorham Swamp Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. A loving son, brother, husband and uncle, Jessie will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to his parents, Jessie was preceded in death by his brother, Harold L. Boyd and sisters, Queenie Irene Sutton and Joyce Marie Taylor.

He is survived by his: wife of 56 years, Hilda Wiggins Boyd; nephews, Harvey Taylor Jr. and Nathan Derrick Boyd.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
