James L. Alligood Jr.

Mr. James Lawrence Alligood Jr., age 74, a resident of Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center of Washington, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Asbury United Methodist Church of Washington, officiated by Rev. Jim Reed.
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of his son, James “Petey” Alligood III, located at 1550 Old Bath Hwy., Washington.
Mr. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on March 25, 1942, son of the late James L. Alligood Sr. and the late Carrie Mae Alligood. He was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School and in 1962 received his Associate Degree in Engineering from Chowan College. Later he attended N.C. State University and studied Nuclear Engineering. Mr. Alligood worked as a salesman for Carolina Dairies and Carolina Ice Company. He also delivered the News & Observer and the Washington Daily News in the Beaufort County area. While a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, he participated in the Pamlico Emmaus Walk.
His faith continued in his nursing home stay where he organized and led the Ridgewood Manor Sunday School and was active in the Ridgewood Manor Residential Council.
Survivors include a son: James “Petey” Alligood III of Washington; two daughters: Doris Fletcher and her husband Louis of Greenville and Carrie Modlin and her husband Roland of Washington; and four grandchildren: Bryan Tuck, Candace Clark, Dylan Modlin and Sierra Modlin. Mr. Alligood was predeceased by an infant son; two brothers: Samuel Ellis Alligood and Larry Eugene Alligood; and two sisters: Lillian Lucille Alligood and Martha Carol Alligood.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made to the American Heart Association, 3219 Landmark Street, Unit 9, Greenville, NC 27834 or to the Ridgewood Manor Sunday School, 1624 Highland Drive, Washington, NC 27889.
