WHDA director speaks at Rotary

The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. After a brief social period in the Upper Deck, members gathered in the Pamlico Room for dinner and business. President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order and music man Bartow Houston led in one verse of My Country Tis of Thee. Serena Sullivan led in the Pledge of Allegiance with assistance from Bill Wall. Russell Smith gave thanks for the meal. After dinner Dr. David Swarner gave the club Health and Happiness report. President McLawhorn then called on program chairman Russell Smith to introduce the speaker. Russell introduced Harold Robinson, director of the Washington Harbor District Alliance. Harold is Washington born and raised, and after a 47-year career in athletics is excited to be back home working for his home town. He presented the basics of the Main Street Program and how they work to provide a successful shopping district. Organization, promotion, design and economic development all come together to help provide a thriving commercial scene. After a question and answer session, President McLawhorn presented Harold the highly coveted Rotary pen for a job well done. The meeting closed out as members recited the Four Way Test of the Things We Think, Say and Do.
