Mrs. Elsie Keyes Mason, 73, formerly of Beaufort County, NC, died Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

She was born February 27, 1943 to the late Leroy and Julia Chapman Keyes.

Elsie attended Washington City and Beaufort County schools. Mrs. Mason joined St. James CME at an early age. In 2009, she joined Metropolitan AME Zion Church.

Those preceding her in death include one great-granddaughter Robin West, and siblings Margaret, Barney, Archie, Claude and Helen Keyes.

Elsie is survived by: 5 children, Alvin, of Greensboro, NC, Donald, Robert Jr., Anita of Philadelphia, Pa., and Kevin Sr., of Wilmington, De.; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Leroy of Washington, Joseph of Philadelphia, Pa., Mildred of Washington, her twin Valerie (Velma) of West Chester, Pa., and Lenora of Philadelphia, Pa.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Metropolitan AME Zion Church at 102 West MLK Jr. Dr. There is a viewing one hour before the service in the church. Additionally, a public visitation will be Friday evening from 6-7pm in the Leon Randolph Memorial Chapel at 208 West MLK Jr. Dr., and other times at the home of her sister, Mildred K. Randolph at 208 West 7^th Street, Washington.

Burial will follow in the Keyes Cemetery/Cedar Hill.
