Thomas Ray Causby

Thomas Ray Causby, 92, of Belmont, NC, died February 20, 2017. Tommy was the youngest of 12 children born to the late Pinkney Andrew and Bessie Crow Causby on August 29, 1924 in Rutherford County.

A celebration memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at The Lutheran Church of the Holy Comforter (216 N. Main Street) in Belmont, NC, with Pastor Micah Kearney officiating. A reception and receiving of friends will follow the service.

A veteran of World War II, Tommy was involved in sales with numerous companies, including Belmont Textile Machinery. He was a former Trustee at Gardner-Webb University, and supporter and donor (HBA) Hawaii Baptist Academy. Tommy was a businessman with ties to Eastern North Carolina textile industries. Tommy was an entrepreneur, real estate investor and developer. His love of Christ and his church were an inspiration to the community through the years. He was a quiet and unassuming benevolent contributor to churches, institutions and multiple charities.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Barbee Causby of the home; stepson, Greg Cline of Belmont; grandsons, A.R. Peters IV (Melanie) of Burlington, Hal Davis Peters (Dana) of Washington, NC; great-grandchildren, A.R. Peters V (Gus), Ava O’Dell Peters, Emma Davis Peters, Davis Causby Peters; and son-in-law, A.R. Peters III (Pete). He was preceded in death by his wife, Hal P. Causby and his daughter, Amy O’Dell Causby Peters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Holy Comforter Vision Fund or Music Fund.
