James Mills Buck

James Mills Buck, 72, of Winterville, passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2017.

The funeral service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Woolard Family Cemetery in Washington.

Mr. Buck was raised in the Chicod community of Pitt County.  He served in the United States Army as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War.  Following his military service, he worked as a mechanic with Fieldcrest Mills and as a mechanical engineer with Cottrell, a manufacturer of car carriers.

Mr. Buck was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis and Lindy Buck.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ella Louise Buck; son, Joey Ange and wife, Shyvonne, of Dallas, Georgia; their children, Joshua, Ethan, Chris, Karah, Kelsie, Abigail and Gianna; and their grandchild,  Skylar; daughters, Wanda Hollick and husband, Deryl, of Cary; their children, Christine, Bryan and Matthew; andDonna Lassiter and husband, Kevin, of Washington; and their children, Kevin Scott, Tyler and Emily; brothers-in-law, Earl Godley and wife, Mary; Ronald Godley and wife, Brenda, all of Washington; and Rick Godley and wife, Dorinda, of Bayview; special friends, Winnie Latham and Barbara Bachelor, both of Garner, and Margaret Haynie, of Jacksonville; and his four special dogs, Copper, Space Man, Freddie and Chewbacca.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Kevin and Donna Lassiter, 1440 Horse Pen Swamp Road, Washington.
