Severe T-storms passing through the area

A line of severe thunderstorms was moving east through the Beaufort County area as of midnight.

Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, severe storms were scattered from Wilson to eastern Pitt County, with heavy rains, lightning and potential hail. Strong storm cells were expected to hit Washington just after midnight, with wind gusts up to 50 mph. As of 1 a.m., these storm cells were mostly concentrated in the eastern part of the county.

The National Weather Service warned residents of flash flooding and dime-size hail.

Thunderstorms tapered off around 2 a.m. Thursday, and rainfall continued for the next couple of hours.
