The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. After a social period in the Upper Deck, members moved to the Pamlico Room for dinner and business. President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order. Todd Williamson led in one verse of “America” and the Pledge of Allegiance. Russell Smith gave thanks for the meal.

After a great meal and lively conversation, President McLawhorn called on program director Dr. Jay Sullivan to introduce the guest speaker. Sullivan introduced Justin Rose, director of Industry Training at Beaufort County Community College. Justin has been a member of Continuing Education since 2014. He has worked to expand the Summer Enrichment Program to an average of 25 classes. The curriculum is STEM-based to inspire youth to pursue further learning. The program has also partnered with local businesses and organizations to encourage learning about more things in our immediate area. The classes are very affordable and have proven to be a fun learning experience for the students. Time slots are set to accommodate most any schedule. After several questions, McLawhorn presented Justin the highly coveted Rotary pen.

Noon Rotary President Pam Anderson and Interact Club liaison Carol Burtt were recognized as special guests. The meeting ended with all joining in to recite the Four Way Test of the Things We Think, Say and Do.
