Elizabeth “Betsy” Phillips Drummond

Ms. Elizabeth “Betsy” Phillips Drummond, age 86, a resident of Camelia Dr., Washington, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Palliative Care, Greenville, NC. Betsy was born March 11, 1931 to the late Ruth Sykes Phillips and Ernest Phillips in Enfield, NC. Betsy was a graduate of Needham-Broughton High School of Raleigh, NC and Women’s College (now UNC-Greensboro). She married Fred Owings Drummond on August 22, 1953 who preceded her in death in 2001. She was a resident of Washington for 27 years, relocating here from Maryland with her husband. Betsy was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Pamlico Garden Club, past President of the First United Methodist Women and past President of YWCA in West Chester, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by two sons: Frank Edward Drummond and John Phillip Drummond; two brothers, Ernest Phillips Jr. and Jack Phillips. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Anne Drummond of Raleigh, NC; two sons: Robert Courtney Drummond of Newark, DE, and Fred R. Drummond of Baltimore, MD; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law: JoAnn and Shelby Phillips. A celebration of Betsy’s life will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, March 17, 2017 in the historic sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, Washington, with Reverend Danny Allen officiating. A graveside service will be held 1:00pm, Monday, March 20, 2017 at Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, West Chester, PA. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the parlor. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612. Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Drummond family.
