Charles M. Best

Mr. Charles M. Best, 84, of Mebane, died at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 5:38 a.m. following a short battle with cancer.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Sarah Stephens Best, who survives and the son of W. Claude Best and Nina Pendergraft Best, both deceased. Mr. Best was a retired dairy farmer. He was the founder of Quail Farm Beagle Club and attended Lighthouse Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife Sarah of the home, survivors include a daughter, Sarah Best Gibson and husband Frank of Efland; two grandchildren, Lindsey Gibson of Mebane and Tyler Gibson of Hawaii; mother of his children, Rachel Thompson Best; stepchildren, Kim Mayo and husband Horace, Carolyn Walker and husband Randy, and Anita Culter, all of Washington; six step-grandchildren, Ace Mayo and wife Jamie, Felisha Lang and husband Ralph, Natalie Deak and husband Casey, Dr. Christopher Walker and wife Sarah, Jennifer Walker and Dylan Cutler; five step-great-grandchildren; and loving dog, Skippy.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betsy Best; two sons, Mike Best and Carlton “Bo” Best; and brother, Dr. William R. Best.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Quail Farm Beagle Clubhouse, conducted by Rev. David Hopkins. Friends are invited to join the family for a meal following the service. Other times, the family will be at the residence.
