Gladys Gray (Lanier) Spruill, 77, of Mebane, passed away on June 1, 2017 at Peak Resources in Graham. She was born September 16, 1939 in Beaufort County, NC, to David Ronald and Lillian Lanier. Her legacy is laughter, kindness and empathy. Quick with a smile and making others laugh was her general disposition.  She never met a stranger in need of a compassionate ear that she did not stop and listen. She gave when she had little and asked for nothing.  She possessed life’s greatest treasures of being content with things as they are and a belief that God will always provide. She taught her family to trust God, to love and to do their best.

She tirelessly cared for her one and only love, William Preston Spruill (1932-1998), over 42 years of marriage.  She leaves three children Cindy S. Craig, David O. Spruill and D. Christine Spruill; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild and a brother Herman M. Lanier.

She is preceeded in death by two sisters (Lessie Selby and Josephine Gibbs) and two stepsons (William A. Spruill and William P. Spruill Jr.).
