Tyrrell deputies responded to 450 law enforcement calls or complaints inside Columbia during April, lowest number of such calls in three months, Sheriff Darryl Liverman reported to the town’s board of aldermen on May 1.
There were 470 law enforcement calls in March and 493 in February, the sheriff reported.
Similarly, ambulance calls were down: 24 in April, 25 in March, and 27 in February.
One fire was reported inside the town in April, two in March and none in February.
Among the calls deputies responded to in April were one breakin, two disputes in progress, two disturbances, a domestic problem in progress, two fights in progress, four fraud charges, three injuries to property, seven intrusion/burglar alarms, 11 investigations, one mental patient transport, 20 reports of lost or found property, 10 security checks, a town code violation, two traffic hazards, 35 traffic stops, six prisoner transports, two trespassing, one unconscious person, and seven vehicle unlocks.
In the northwest section of town, as divided by Scuppernong Drive and Broad Street, there were three investigations, four citations issued, two orders for arrest (assault on a female and probation violation), and one on-view arrest for driving while impaired.
In the northeast there were four investigations, two citations issued, and two on-view arrests for possession of drug paraphernalia and for simple assault and resisting a public officer.
Three investigations were conducted in the southwest quadrant, and one investigation took place in the southeast section of town.
The two officers assigned to duty in Columbia drove 3,518 miles during April.
