She was naturally friendly, enjoyed meeting people and greeting old/new friends from her chair in the Store. Working until age 93, she arose early to open her store daily until recently. Age made no difference as she was friends to all ages and groups. A wonderful cook, family would ask constantly if she was cooking today.

A member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, Manteo, she enjoyed her church family.
Prior to moving to Manteo she was a member of Swan Quarter Christian Church and still maintains close ties there.
Raised in Sladesville, NC, she graduated as Valedictorian of Sladesville High School, worked with government agencies: Price Administration, Selective Service and FHA.
In 1962 she and husband, Ray with his brother, Charlie Cahoon, bought Evans Place in Nags Head. They then became the sole owners of Cahoon’s Variety/Market to which they worked to build and bring in new generations of family.
An avid bridge player (card games of all types), and basketball fanatic, she attended the Women’s ACC Tournament in Greensboro for years, making new friends.
