Edna P. Porter

Mrs. Edna P. Porter, age 87, of Aurora, died Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Ridgewood Manor in Washington.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017, at Aurora United Methodist Church, Aurora, officiated by Rev. Phillip Lewis and Rev. Peg Witt. Burial will follow at Pineland Cemetery of Aurora.

Mrs. Porter was born on March 26, 1930, daughter of the late Leon Allen Porter and Pearle Hill Porter. On March 1, 1953, she married George Lee Porter who preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 2010. She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Porter was a devoted wife and mother who also delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was loyal to family and a compassionate friend to all who needed a listening ear. Her genuine, quiet faith saw her bravely through the challenges faced by the Great Generation and at the end of her earthly life, a long illness. She thought and felt deeply and loved warmth and humor of family gatherings. Her memory will be a joy to cherish.

Mrs. Porter is survived by her son: Lee and wife Sue; daughter: Lynn and husband Ronnie; son: Fred and wife Cindy; son: Bobby and wife Tina; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sister: Hazel Porter Bright and husband Edward Bright and her brother: Leon Allen Porter and wife Jean.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Aurora United Methodist Church, c/o Jackie Thompson, P. O. Box 69, Aurora, NC 27806.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday, June 26, 2017, at Aurora United Methodist Church and other times at the home of her daughter Lynn Edwards, located at 68 Four Paws Road, Aurora.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers of Ridgewood Manor and to Community Home Care and Hospice for all the love, care and support they have provided for Mom and all of us.
