Phillip “Wayne” Waters Jr.

Mr. Phillip “Wayne” Waters Jr., age 55, a resident of Washington, and a former resident of Duck Creek, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at River Trace Nursing Center of Washington.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, officiated by Mike Caton. Burial will follow in Latham Cemetery of Pinetown. Pallbearers will be Keith Wallace, Mike Freeman, Mike Bateman, Charlie Wallace, Phil Lee and Butch Chase. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Haddock, Billy Bondurant, Ed Pippin, Alex Waters, Tyler Waters, Stacey Pippin, Bryan Woolard, Adam Waters and all former players whom Wayne has coached among the years.
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of Phillip and Faye Waters, 133 W. Main Street, Pinetown.
Wayne was born on October 21, 1961, son of Phillip Wayne Waters, who survives, and the late Calie Jeannette Woolard Waters. He was a 1980 graduate of Bath High School and was later the owner/operator of Renn Taff Office Supply of Washington. Wayne was a mentor and coach to many Beaufort County youths while coaching baseball in the Washington Little Tar-Heel League and Washington Junior Babe Ruth League. He was a former member of Washington Optimist Club and Friends & Neighbors of Washington. Wayne was also a former board member of Pinetown Rescue & EMS.
Survivors include a daughter: Kelly W. Elks (Brooks) of Washington; his father and stepmother: Phillip and Faye Waters of Pinetown; a stepson: John Scott Cutler (Erin) of Bath; a brother: Tony Waters (Penny) of Pinetown; three stepbrothers: Thomas Key and Donald Smith of Chocowinity and J.R. Key of Texas; a stepsister: Mary Helen Jones (Larry) of Vanceboro; two grandchildren: Ryleigh and Kaylee Elks, both of Washington; two step-grandchildren: Caroline and Kenley Cutler of Bath; an aunt: Donna Pippin (Don) of Williamston; two uncles: Calis Woolard of Pitt County and Colon Woolard of Washington; a niece: Allison Waters; three step-nieces: Dot Jones, Katie Jones and Moriah Jones; two nephews: Tyler and Alex Waters; four step-nephews: Mickey and Matthew Smith and T.J. and Casey Key and two step-great-nieces: Chloe Jones and Raelyn Moore. Wayne was predeceased along with his mother: Calie Waters, by a brother: Timmy “Tubbz” Waters; his maternal grandparents: Armstead and Annie Mae Woolard and his paternal grandparents: Charlie and Margie Waters.
