Thomas Jefferson “T.J.” Mann passed away, June 30, 2017 at Vidant Hospital, Greenville, after several years of declining health. He was a recent resident of Cypress Glenn Retirement Community.

A native of Lake Landing, NC, he was born January 25, 1930 to the late Norfleet and Alese Mann. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Sallie Easterling Mann, his daughter Martha Mann Faulkner and her husband, Ronnie and a number of much beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and their children.

T.J. was a graduate of Engelhard High School. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and was actively engaged in the Korean Conflict.

He retired from DuPont in Kinston after thirty-two years of employment. During that period, he resided in Greenville, Winterville and Ayden.

After retirement, he returned to his home in Lake Landing where he became an active participant in his community including church and several civic organizations.

At the same time, he established an electrical contracting business, which he continued after moving to his Pungo River cottage full time.

There he quickly became the official greeter of Woodstock on the Pungo via his trusty golf cart accompanied by the dog he owned at the time.

He was happiest when entertaining family and friends while enjoying his favorite libation on the front porch overlooking the water.

T.J. loved crabbing, fishing, socializing with all those with whom he came in contact and sharing stories of growing up in Engelhard.

He will be remembered by all as an outspoken, but caring and loyal friend and family member.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Amity United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the family plot in the church cemetery. Pastor Jerald Craddock officiated.

He was preceded in death by a brother Charles Mann.

The family received friends immediately following the service at St. George’s Episcopal Church Parrish Hall.
