Teresa Langley, a 23-year-old from Greenville, has been identified as a suspect in the hit-and-run collision that injured 22-year-old Chocowinity resident Aaron Moore.
Langley turned herself in to the Washington Police Department on Thursday morning, according to Sgt. Kevin Respass of State Highway Patrol.
Criminal charges against Langley are pending, and she is not currently being held in custody. A hit-and-run is classified as a felony.
Langley was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run July 4.. The incident sent Moore to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He has since been released and is in good condition, Respass said.
Langley was allegedly on her way to watch fireworks. Officers are unsure why she did not stop after the collision.
While the fact that she turned herself in could earn her some leniency, Respass said that the charges will still be “pretty serious.” She will likely appear in court next week, he said.
The collision occurred around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 17. Moore was out of his vehicle walking along the side of the road when the car struck him. Officers have confirmed initial reports that the vehicle involved was a burgundy PT Cruiser.
