Mrs. Barbara Dunbar Harris Allen, age 77, a resident of Pantego, died Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Union Grove Church of Christ, officiated by Scott Askew, Rupert Wallace and Kirk Harris. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery of Pantego. R. A. Phillips Jr., Wayne Black, Vernon Bell, Jeffrey Latham, Colby Latham, Paul Boyd, Frankie Waters and Tony Harris will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Old Man’s Cave Club.
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2017 at Union Grove Church of Christ and other times at the home.
Mrs. Allen was born in Beaufort County on December 21, 1939, daughter of the late Haden Harris and the late Juanita Mae Dunbar Harris. She was a 1958 graduate of Pantego High School and continued her education at Rex Nursing School where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1961. She retired from the nursing field after forty-five years of service at the Plymouth Clinic and Plumbee Nursing center of Plymouth. On September 3, 1961, she married Daniel William “Billy” Allen Jr. who survives. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Pungo River Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies’ Auxiliary and a board member of Pungo Christian Academy where she had served for twelve years. She was a member of Union Grove Church of Christ where she was very active in many aspects.
Surviving along with her husband: Billy of the home are two daughters: Donna
Allen Martin (Eric) of Greenville and Anita Allen Benson (Mart) of Pantego; seven grandchildren: Will Martin, Harrison Martin, Sydney Martin, Allen Benson, Brent Benson, MarLea Harris and Jenny Harris and a nephew: Eddie Bryant Harris Jr. of Pantego. Mrs. Allen was predeceased along with her parents by a brother: Eddie Bryant Harris Sr. and a grandson: Cole Benson.
