Mr. Monroe Harrison “M.H.” Apple Jr., age 85, a former resident of the Old Ford Community, Washington, died Monday, August 7, 2017 at Ridgewood Manor in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Old Ford Church of Christ, 6040 U.S. Highway 17 North, Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen and Thomas Hamilton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Shawn Evans, Ray Williams, Jesse Powers III, Jimmy Hodges, Freddie Matkins and Johnny Matkins. Members of the Men’s Sunday School Class of the Old Ford Church of Christ and the Old Ford Ruritan Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Apple was born in Pitt County on August 7, 1932. He was the son of the late Monroe Harrison Apple Sr. and Nancy Andrews Apple. Mr. Apple served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a retired route salesman with Dr. Pepper, Coca Cola, Maola Ice Cream, Roberson Beverages and Carolina Dairies.
Mr. Apple was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Old Ford Ruritan Club and Woodmen of the World, Old Ford Camp #671. In his spare time, Mr. Apple enjoyed eating breakfast with the McDonald’s Breakfast Club, watching Westerns and War movies on TV, attending church and his grandchildren’s ball games.
Mr. Apple was married to the former Betsy Rogers, who preceded him in death in 1980.
He is survived by a daughter, Kristi Apple McLawhorn and husband, Ray of Wilmar; a son, Michael Harrison Apple and his wife, Leigh of Washington; grandchildren, Stephen Aaron McLawhorn and Alyssa Katherine McLawhorn; sister-in-law, Judy Rogers Williams and husband, Raymond; brothers-in-law, Curtis Rogers, Joey Rogers and wife, Doris, Jim Rogers and wife, Peggy Jean, Wade Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Apple was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Wayne Apple; brother, Billy Maben Apple; and three sisters, Margaret Genevieve Keech, Frances Apple Asby and Lola Apple Allison.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of his daughter, Kristi McLawhorn, 2390 Chandler Road, Vanceboro.
