Mrs. Jacquelyn “Jackie” Respess Manning, age 83, a resident of Pantego and Belhaven, died Monday, October 9, 2017 at her Belhaven home.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Pike Road Church of Christ, officiated by Mitchell Floyd and Larry Wilson. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery. Neil Manning, Trey Manning, Zak Manning, Brian Tippett, Eric Pledger and Jason Berben will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour Thursday at the church and other times at her Pantego home.
Mrs. Jackie was born in the Pike Road community of Beaufort County on February 16, 1934, daughter of the late William Arthur Respess Sr. and the late Mary Ellen “Mamie” Cutler Respess. She was a 1952 graduate of Pantego High School as class valedictorian. On March 1, 1954, she married Carlos Ervin Manning who survives. Although Mrs. Jackie worked several jobs in her lifetime, she dedicated her time to her family as a homemaker. She was a member of the former Pungo Chapter of the Beaufort County Home Demonstration Club and Pike Road Church of Christ, which was her second family. At her church, Mrs. Jackie was a Sunday school teacher for many years and taught the children’s class and the ladies class. She loved crafts and sewed doll clothing for her own dolls as well as for many in the community.
Surviving along with Mrs. Jackie’s husband: Ervin Manning Sr. of the home are two sons: Buster Manning (Susan) and Maurice Manning (Teresa) all Pantego; a daughter: Monica Manning of Bethel; a sister: Derial Fletcher of Pantego; five grandchildren: Neil, Trey and Zak Manning, Melissa Pledger and Angela Berben; and nine great-grandchildren: Ty and Cam Reiners, Carlos Manning IV, Caroline and Thomas Manning, Noah Berben, and Elise, Rhett and Rosalyn Pledger. Mrs. Jackie was predeceased by five brothers: Moninger, James, Ulmer, William A. Jr. and Tally Respess and three sisters: Heppie Carr Hill, Elizabeth Sulc and Hulda Pittman.
