Warmer Weather Brings Out the Wildlife on Refuges

As the weather warms, wildlife on Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge becomes more active. This 4 foot, Black Racer (Coluber constrictor) slithered across the road into a pile of downed brush, quickly raised it head and became as still as a stick watching the photographer. A casual passerby might miss it altogether. Black Racers eat lizards, birds, insects, small rodents and amphibians along with other snakes.
