Helen Futrell James Farrow

Mrs. Helen Futrell James Farrow, a resident of Washington, died Friday, April 20, 2018, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Everett’s Church of Christ and will be officiated by Dennis R. Davis. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Michael James, Cameron James, Ben James, Dustin Bowles, Eric Farrow, Jeremy Farrow and Jonathan DeWald will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Helen was born in Wayne County on Dec. 14, 1932, to the late Roland Bryant Futrell and Sallie Bogue Futrell. On Aug. 20, 1953, Helen married Benjamin H. James and together they ministered to churches in Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina. In her ministry, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and leading ladies’ groups. She graduated from Pitt Community College with an Associates in Applied Sciences and worked as a Health Care technician for seven years. Mrs. Helen liked gardening, sewing and cooking. Her priorities above all else were her family and her church. On June 23, 2012, she married Raffael B. Farrow, Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Raffael B. Farrow, Sr., of the home; four children, Laurie J. Bowles and husband Ray, Aino J. Jackson and husband Chris, Timothy R. James and significant other Donna, Ben Mark James and wife Diane; a daughter-in-law, Candi James; 13 grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Dustin, Haylee, Christopher, Erin, Jonathan, Leia, Michael, Cameron, Caroline, Ben, Brittany; 12 great-grandchildren; six children from the Farrow family, Raffael B. Farrow, Jr. and wife Beth, D. Edward Farrow and wife Linda, S. Lynette Farrow, Jeffrey S. Farrow and wife Shirley, Michelle F. Mobley, Katherine A. Blake and husband Matt; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Zane Grey Futrell and William Futrell.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin H. James, in May 2004; her son, John W. James; a brother, Norwood Futrell; a sister, Anna Futrell; and a grandchild of the Farrow family.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at her home.
