Early Blooming Native Wildflower

Small’s Ragwort (Packera anonyma), also called Appalachian or Southern Ragwort, is a native wildflower that blooms early in the growing season. It typically grows 12-18″ tall. As temperatures begin to warm and bees become active, they are attracted to Small’s Ragwort as an early food source. The plant occurs in areas with full sunlight and produces fluffy seeds in the late spring. You’ll currently find it blooming on Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge along Buffalo City Road.
