DAVID SWAIN’S RESIDENCE AT 611 JERRY POST OFFICE ROAD south of Columbia was totally destroyed by fire around 9 p.m. Friday, April 13. Swain, awakened by smoke, escaped the blaze, Sheriff Darryl Liverman stated. Tyrrell Volunteer Fire Department, Washington-Tyrrell EMS, and Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 911 call. Creswell Fire Department provided mutual aid. Crews were on the scene for over five hours. The cause of the fire has not been determined, the sheriff said. Siding on a neighboring double-wide home melted from the heat.
