Tyrrell County voters are invited to meet and hear candidates for sheriff and board of education on April 19.

The Greater Tyrrell County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Meet the Candidates Night at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 19, in Madge L. VanHorne Auditorium.

Three Democratic candidates for sheriff — Joey Elliott, Nathan McPeak, and Kevin Sawyer — are expected to be present and speak.

Four candidates in the non-partisan election for three seats on the county board of education — Carlos Armstrong, Karen Clough, Robin Dunbar, and Kisha Norman — have also been invited to speak.

An audience question-and-answer session will follow the candidates’ brief statements.

Early voting in the 2018 election cycle begins April 19 in the board of elections office in the courthouse in Columbia. Primary Day May 8, and the General Election is held on November 6.

Two candidates for two seats on the county board of commissioners — Democrat Nina Griswell and Republican Jordan Davis — and clerk of court Angie Sexton, who is unchallenged, will be invited to appear when a similar Meet the Candidates Night is held before the general election next fall, a Chamber spokesperson said.
