The Career and Technical Education Department and the Early College at Columbia High School are currently exploring the possibility of transporting students to Beaufort County Community College for classes beginning the Spring semester of 2019, Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent, stated.

“This opportunity would provide our students a clearer pathway to career or college, and allow students to take more specialized classes in their chosen field,” he explained.

A student interested in Nursing, for example, could start with Health Sciences at Columbia, continue at BCCC and finish at East Carolina University with a four-year degree by the time they are 20-21 years old.

Similarly, students would be able to take classes in Automotive Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Business, Information Technology, and Medical Administration, among mothers. BCCC offers 24 programs and many diploma and certificate options.

“With the solid core education from our high school, coupled with the offerings in CTE, then bridged with the offerings from BCCC, our students will graduate high school better prepared than ever before,” Dr. Hoffman explained.
